    White Gold is a climate technology and circular economy startup that uses scientific and technological innovation to improve the livelihood of smallholder farmers and build a sustainable community.

    One of the global most valuable minerals is “Gold” and this asset can only be extracted with heavy machineries from mother earth – not knowing that we have been seeing or walking on gold every day; and not every “gold” needs extreme extraction.

    There is a “White Gold” called “Cassava”.

    Many grew up in a community where the major use of cassava roots is as “garri” consumption.
    The curiosity for discovering other derived value from the roots than "garri" led us to some market studies on the “White Gold” of Africa (as one of the books called it) been thrown into the trash.

    We are dedicated to innovating the biodegradable plastics market by transforming cassava roots, a widely available raw material in Nigeria, into eco-friendly disposable packaging and useful items for different companies.

    What We Do

    White Gold is dedicated to innovating the biodegradable plastics market by transforming cassava roots, a widely available raw material in Nigeria, into eco-friendly disposable plastic items.

    Through scientific innovation we are transforming available raw materials into efficient and sustainable plastic materials. Looking through the lens of art and science we convert cassava into compostable and biodegradable plastics through our designed molding system.

    We looked at how the same cassava-derived product can serve many industries in a sustainable way (reducing CO2 emission, water bodies being destroyed and agricultural land rendered not useful) at the same time without a need to change our raw materials component so we engineered our own proprietary hardware adaptive and integrated mold system backed up by proprietary software system to fit into this role – this will be the first in kind in the whole of Africa and probably the first in the manufacturing sector.

    Problems We Are Solving

    Plastic waste ends up on most fertile agricultural lands and in water bodies causing damage/harm. This in turn has a short- and long-term harmful effect on humans’ health.

    12 % of plastics are being recycled (2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste are produced per day, and this accounts for 15% of generated total waste).

    Our Proposed Solution

    Designed and produce affordable, compostable and environmentally friendly bioplastics which are said to be biodegradable for various FMCGs – these bioplastics are organically made from 90% cassava and 10% polymer (made up of polylactic acid).

    Our production model eliminates the high upfront costs of traditional plastic mold systems, making it easier for FMCGs to cut production costs while transitioning to sustainable packaging.

    Our Technology

    Our designed and technology-enabled “Mold System” coupled the extruder and plastic converter together – this innovative technology eliminates the need for multiple fixed molds (removing the need for a separate converter), significantly reducing manufacturing costs while enhancing production flexibility.

    By integrating adaptive mold technology into our production lines, it helps to streamline our production, reduce waste and enhances product customer capabilities.
